Texas football: Arch Manning effect has Longhorns shooting up recruiting ranks

Arch Manning’s commitment has done wonders for the Texas football team’s recruiting efforts.
By landing Arch Manning for 2023, Steve Sarkisian has seen his Texas football program skyrocket up the recruiting rankings.
The Longhorns have climbed a ridiculous 31 spots in less than a week since Manning announced his high-profile commitment. Texas currently has the No. 5 recruiting class in the 2023 cycle, according to 247Sports. Manning may be the lone five-star committed to The Lone Star State’s flagship university, but Texas’ 2023 class now has 14 commitments, including eight four-stars.
Texas only trails Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Clemson in the 2023 class rankings.

While Texas is in great company, now inside of the top five, to what degree is that sustainable? Though all five Power Five institutions are capable of putting forth a top-10 class, and in some cases top-five classes, look at who is not there, as well as who rounds out the top 10. No. 6 through No. 10 are as follows: Arkansas, Georgia, Texas Tech, Cincinnati and Northwestern.
Given that recruiting powers like Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M are nowhere to be found, this top 10 is absolutely going to change. The question remains if Texas will have staying power inside of the top 10 like Clemson, Georgia or Ohio State, or is that time towards the top of the rankings fleeting like it is the case for programs such as Arkansas, Cincinnati, Northwestern and Texas Tech.
More important than anything, The Manning Family believes in the Texas staff, and that is all that really matters. As long as The Mannings trust what Sarkisian is doing in Austin, Arch will be a Longhorn. Unfortunately, Texas has not been the epitome of stability for well over a decade now. Manning may want to be the one to bring Texas back, but Texas has to stop beating Texas first.
Winning in recruitment is not everything, but it sure is something when it comes to the Longhorns.
