Braves: Freddie Freeman’s agency change won’t affect Dansby Swanson

Freddie Freeman left Excel Sports Management, the same agency that Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson shares. Will that affect his upcoming free agency?

Freddie Freeman made his return to Atlanta to take on the Braves this past weekend as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tears were shed throughout by Freeman, from meeting with the media to receiving his World Series ring from former manager Brian Snitker.

On Tuesday, June 28, a report from ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that Freeman was ditching Excel Sports Management as his representation after telling friends that he was angry with how free agency negotiations took place this past offseason. Of course, Freeman and the Braves could not come to terms on a contract, and he signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Dodgers.

With Freeman leaving Excel, how exactly does that affect Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson, who is set to become a free agent at the end of this season?

Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution spoke with Swanson on Tuesday, who said that he is still with Excel Sports Management and that he has no plans to leave them. That, and Swanson said that what happened with Freeman would have no impact on him.

Swanson is having himself quite the season with the Braves. In 74 games, he recorded a .304 batting average, a .367 on-base percentage, a .504 slugging percentage, 13 home runs, 43 RBI, 48 runs scored and 84 hits.

Spotrac projects of Swanson’s market value that he could get a contract that pays him $22.1 million in annual salary. He is among the top free-agent shortstop options next offseason, with Trea Turner of the Dodgers being the other.

For anyone who thought that Swanson’s relationship with Excel Sports Management would change, that is not happening.
