What Carlos Correa thinks of potential Aaron Judge-Twins fit, and is it realistic
Last week, Buster Olney of ESPN said that the Minnesota Twins could be a fit for New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge. We asked Carlos Correa what he thought of it.
Carlos Correa has helped usher in a winning culture with the Minnesota Twins after leaving the Houston Astros. He hopes that he will be able to lead the Twins to some success in the postseason, as they have only won one postseason series since they won the World Series in 1991.
Another team that has struggled in the postseason in recent years is the New York Yankees. They haven’t been to the World Series since they won the World Series in 2009.
Their best player, Aaron Judge, is hitting free agency after the 2022 season and he could potentially leave the New York Yankees.
Last week, Buster Olney of ESPN suggested that the Minnesota Twins could be a fit for Aaron Judge.
In an exclusive conversation with Correa this weekend at Target Field, we asked the Twins star what he thought about that.
Could the Minnesota Twins have both Carlos Correa and Aaron Judge on their team in 2023?
It would be expensive but just imagine if the Minnesota Twins were able to have both Carlos Correa and Aaron Judge on the same team in 2023.
Correa is making $35.1 million in 2022, 2023, and 2024 but he has an opt-out clause after each season. If he’s healthy, Correa is likely to opt out of his contract. However, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he stays in Minnesota after 2022.
Judge could become the highest-paid position player this offseason so, with Correa, the Twins could spend around $75 million per season on just those two players.
We asked Correa if he has thought about Judge coming to Minnesota.
“I haven’t thought about that,” Correa told FanSided. “But he’s one of the best players in the game. I’m pretty sure every team’s gonna try to go after him, at least the ones that can afford him. I’ll think about it (more) in the offseason. I’ll give him a call.”
Correa said that he is “very happy” with being on the Twins and his decision to sign there so, perhaps, he could try to get Judge to leave the Yankees in similar fashion. If (and it’s a big if) that happens, though, it would be another seismic move for the baseball industry that would show that the Yankees aren’t the “Evil Empire” that they used to be.
