2. Will Brian Kelly’s coaching philosophy actually work in the heart of the SEC?

No doubt about it. How Brian Kelly assimilates to coaching college football in SEC country will be utterly fascinating. His track record on the gridiron speaks for itself, but Baton Rouge, Louisiana may come as quite a culture shock for the Bostonian who spent all of his illustrious coaching career in the midwest. If he wins games, LSU fans will embrace him, but does he have a chance?

What Kelly needs to do is be himself (that is going so well right now…) and believe in the coaching philosophies that have gotten him this far. This means having great offensive line play, a strong running game built around a mobile quarterback and allowing his program to be a pro football factory for the tight end position. He should also lean into Catholic schools in recruitment as well.

There is not much margin for error for Kelly at LSU, then again, there was not a ton at Notre Dame.

1. So … who is going to be the starting quarterback for this year’s Tigers team?

To be frank, this might be the most intriguing quarterback battle in the Power Five, as nobody really knows where Kelly is leaning between Myles Brennan, Jayden Daniels, Walker Howard or Garret Nussmeier. Brennan has been with the program the longest, but he is largely unproven. Daniels transferred over from Arizona State. Howard is a freshman, but what about Nussmeier?

The son of noted offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier has a real shot at winning the job. The redshirt freshman offered a lot of star potential coming out of high school. With this being a new offense for everybody involved, any of them can realistically win it, although maybe not Howard. Regardless, Kelly has to make his decision with great confidence before the Florida State game.

Brennan or Daniels may have a slight edge, but Nussmeier is not going away in this battle either.
