Seahawks didn’t leak Baker Mayfield trade early after all
By Mark Powell
The Seattle Seahawks remain very much in play for quarterback Baker Mayfield, who the Browns have yet to trade despite longstanding interest.
While the two sides are actively discussing a trade to get this saga over and done with, they have not agreed to a deal just yet.
On Monday night, a Seahawks Pro Shop jersey was posted on Twitter, suggesting that the team had accidentally leaked some Mayfield attire.
Yet, despite the tweet going viral, that is not the case.
Someone — we’re not sure if it was the above user or not — photoshopped Mayfield’s name onto a Quandre Diggs jersey. Diggs currently wears No. 6 for Seattle.

It’s an easy mistake to make from a social media standpoint. Not to mention, it’s unknown if Baker will wear No. 6 upon his arrival in the Emerald City, assuming he gets dealt there after all.
As Pro Football Talk explains, supplying fans with No. 6 Mayfield jerseys would actually be fairly complicated.
"“Because Diggs already has No. 6, the Seahawks wouldn’t instantly launch a page to order a Mayfield jersey with No. 6 on it. He may not even end up with No. 6, if he even ends up on the team. If he does, it wouldn’t be immediate, requiring them to do what the Jaguars did last year when Tim Tebow was on the team (no, it wasn’t a fever dream) and the Jaguars sold jerseys without a number assigned to it.”"
Now, this doesn’t mean a Mayfield trade isn’t close. When asked about a potential Browns reunion this week, Baker said both sides had moved on, and that he was grateful for his time in Cleveland.
But the Seahawks and Browns have been discussing a trade for awhile now. Financial terms have gotten in the way, particularly how much of Baker’s contract Cleveland agrees to keep on their books.
Hopefully, it’s resolved soon and Mayfield can get to work in Seattle.
