Astros: Yordan Alvarez carted off field after scary collision with Jeremy Peña
By Mark Powell
Houston Astros stars Jeremy Peña and Yordan Alvarez were taken out of the game after a violent collision in the outfield at Citi Field.
Alvarez is an AL MVP candidate, likely sitting right behind New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, who has had a phenomenal start to the season in his own right. Meanwhile, Peña has done an excellent job making Houston baseball fans forget all about that Carlos Correa guy.
On Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field, Alvarez and Peña collided in the shallow outfield on a fly ball that was in a precarious position.
Peña left the game, while Alvarez had to be helped off the field via cart. Their status at this time is unknown.
Astros injury update: Jeremy Peña, Yordan Alvarez removed
Alvarez has been on a tear of late, helping the Astros split a four-game set in the Bronx, and excelling thus far in Houston’s series against the best team in the NL (record-wise), the New York Mets.
Peña, meanwhile, just came off the injured list in his own right. Any further ailment to either player would be a big hit to the lineup as we head into July.
We’ll have more updates on this story as they become available.
