Braves: 3 players who won’t be on the roster past the trade deadline

The Atlanta Braves could be very busy around the trade deadline. Which three players might not be be on the roster when August 2nd rolls around?

The Atlanta Braves got off to a rocky start, but have turned the corner recently and are sitting in second place in the NL East behind the division-leading New York Mets.

But some extra pieces may be necessary before the August 2nd trade deadline if the defending World Champions hope to become the first back-to-back winners of the Fall Classic since the New York Yankees won three straight World Series over 20 years ago.

If the Braves are looking to add a few players from the outside before the trade deadline, some of those on the current roster will have to be let go. Which three players will not be on Atlanta’s roster after the trade deadline?

1. Phil Gosselin will not be on the Braves roster after the trade deadline

I think it’s safe to say that Phil Gosselin‘s time on the Atlanta Braves roster will be short-lived. Signed to a minor league contract before the start of the 2022 season and the veteran infielder was recently promoted to the major league roster.

Gosselin adds depth to the infield with starting second baseman Ozzie Albies on the 60-day IL with a fractured left foot. With Albies out of the lineup for at least two months, Atlanta has turned to former Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia to fill in at the keystone.

Adding Gosselin, who is making an appearance with the Braves for the third time in his career, is little more than an insurance policy. There’s an outside chance that Gosselin sneaks past the trade deadline as part of the Braves roster, but even if he survives into August, Gosselin will not be part of Atlanta’s postseason roster.
