3. Washington Nationals pitcher Paolo Espino

Paolo Espino is a bit old for a player who’s only in his second full MLB season since he is 35 years old but he has been one of the best pitchers for the Washington Nationals in 2022.

For the Mets, they have had some injuries in their starting rotation so Espino could help there for the interim but could move back to the bullpen if/when the other starters are healthy.

In 2022, Espino has made 24 appearances (four starts) with an ERA of 2.80. He also has an excellent 1.133 WHIP and he is averaging only two walks per nine innings.

In 2021, he made 35 appearances (19 starts) for the Nationals and he had a 4.27 ERA with a similar WHIP (1.213) and walk rate (2.1 BB/9) that he has in 2022.

Since he doesn’t have a ton of service time, he would be controllable for the next few seasons but considering his age, he likely wouldn’t require much in a trade.
