By Scott Rogust
Was Joey Chestnut once again victorious in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2022? Here is who won the annual Fourth of July competition.
The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest is a Fourth of July tradition. Recently, it has also been the day where Joey Chestnut takes home the championship. With 14 titles to his credit, he had the chance to go for 15, all the while having a ruptured tendon in his leg.
Was Chestnut victorious in the 2022 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest? Or was he defeated for the first time since Matt Stonie bested him in 2015?
Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest 2022: Who won the hot dog eating contest
Chestnut has once again taken home the mustard colored belt for the 15th time in his career, and 15th in the last 16. He coasted to victory by eating 63 hot dogs. Geoffrey Esper finished in second-place with 47.5.
Fun fact, Chestnut now has more championships in a single event than tennis star Rafael Nadal, who won 14 French Open titles.
As mentioned earlier, Chestnut lost the opportunity to win nine-consecutive Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contests in 2015. While he did eat 60 hot dogs, Stonie bested him by two with 62 to pull off the upset.
Chestnut has now won the contest ever since that loss, and it does not look like he will be losing again anytime soon. 15 championships is nice and all, but will it really be sprirsing if he goes for 20. We believe it.
