Odds say Packers are favorites to sign Julio Jones for 2022
By Scott Rogust
Wide receiver Julio Jones is still a free agent, but the odds are in the Green Bay Packers’ favor to sign him.
NFL training camp begins near the end of this month, and there are still plenty of players that are still free agents. There is one huge name that remains unsigned, and that is former Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans wide receiver Julio Jones. With the regular season approaching quickly, it may be a matter of time before he signs on with a team.
When it comes to the favorites, the consensus odds say that the Green Bay Packers are the favorites at +325. But, there is a team that is not too far behind them, and they are the Indianapolis Colts at +350.
Packers the favorites to sign Julio Jones in 2022
The Packers wide receiver room is going to look very different entering the 2022 season. Star Davante Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, whom he signed a five-year, $140 million contract extension with. Green Bay also lost Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Kansas City Chiefs and Equanimeous St. Brown to the Chicago Bears this offseason.
That is not to say the Packers didn’t make additions. They used their second-round pick on North Dakota State wide receiver Christian Watson and signed veteran Sammy Watkins to a one-year deal.
Bringing in Jones would bring some star power that is missing in Green Bay’s offense. However, he is coming off a down, injury-riddled 2021 campaign with the Titans, where he caught 31 passes for 434 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. That is what led to his release from the Titans one year after the team acquired him in a trade with the Falcons.
Will the Packers sign Jones? Or will some other team in need of a wide receiver sign him to a contract?
