Tiger Woods took the course at the JP McManus Pro-Am in Ireland for light preparation for The Open Championship and made some fireworks on July 4.

The Open Championship at St. Andrews is less than two weeks away. Subsequently, many of the golfers who will tee it up at the fourth major of 2022 are already in Europe, most of them for this week’s Scottish Open that will provide a tune-up for many players. For Tiger Woods, however, he chose to get his pre-major work at the star-studded JP McManus Pro-Am in Ireland to start this week.

Alongside many of the top golfers in the world and famous playing partners for the Pro-Am, Woods took to the event only held once every five years to get some reps in.

While the bulk of his round didn’t inspire a ton of confidence for the form of the Big Cat heading into St. Andrews, he did show some flashes. None of those were flashier, though, than on the 12th hole when, from a tight angle off of the green, Woods rolled up a beautiful chip that found the bottom of the cup to count as an eagle on the card.

Even at a pro-am — albeit perhaps the biggest one in the world — the crowd still can’t get enough of the Tiger Woods magic.

Unfortunately, that was just about the only magic that Woods provided on the day. As mentioned, his form left a bit to be desired as he finished his day at 5-over, tying him for 43rd in the 50-player field (minus one player after Jordan Spieth was disqualified).

Still, it’s good to see Woods healthy and on the golf course getting his reps in to ready himself for The Open. He looked rough at the end of the PGA Championship, a tournament from which he withdrew after three rounds due to his health.

Let’s hope that his chip-in eagle at the JP McManus Pro-Am is a sign of good things to come for Woods in the next couple of weeks.
