2. player. 6. Scouting Report. SP. Zack Wheeler. Philadelphia Phillies. Pick Analysis

Zack Wheeler is in the midst of his prime as a pitcher, so he should be in L.A.

Unlike most players appearing on this list, Zack Wheeler’s Philadelphia Phillies have played exceptionally well of late. While they have the tough luck of being in the same NL East division as the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies should be a playoff team this year. It has not happened in over a decade. A big reason why they are winning so much is Wheeler’s pitching.

Wheeler is 8-4 on the season with a 2.46 ERA and has a 3.2 WAR for pitchers. The latter two statistics have him in the top 10 in baseball. While one can certainly make the compelling case for his Philadelphia teammate Aaron Nola to make the squad as well, it is a shame neither Phillies starter is going to Los Angeles. Hopefully, one of them is able to get the call in a few days’ time.

The All-Star Game should be about rewarding players who are helping their teams win big games.

33. Scouting Report. St. Louis Cardinals. 1. player. Tommy Edman. Pick Analysis. 2B

Tommy Edman should be in the All-Star Game, point blank. What are we doing?!

While we are picking nits when it comes to who should and should not be at the All-Star Game, St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Tommy Edman should be there. The Redbirds may have cooled off a bit, but Edman ranks fifth in WAR in all of baseball at 4.3. He leads all of baseball in defensive WAR at 2.3 with the next closest being 1.6 by Nico Hoerner of the Chicago Cubs. Get Edman to L.A.

As it is with Austin Riley of the Atlanta Braves to some extent, this is all about the position Edman plays more than anything. Jazz Chisholm Jr. got voted in as an All-Star for the Miami Marlins, as he should have. With the New York Mets having a great season so far, it is understandable why Jeff McNeil got the nod over Edman. Still, Edman has been a stabilizing force in the Cardinals’ lineup.

Other players may feel like they got robbed, and rightfully so, but Edman takes the cake here.
