Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had an intense bout of bad luck with a ball slipping through his glove on a routine play for the second time this year.

The Blue Jays need all the luck they can get to stay competitive in the AL East. Instead, they got hit with some really rotten luck on Sunday during a game against the Mariners.

Holding a 4-1 lead over Seattle in the fifth inning, Sam Haggerty grounded into a sure-fire double play. Catcher Gabriel Moreno tossed the ball towards Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for what should have been the first of two outs which would have ended the inning. Then the ball hit Guerrero’s glove and slipped right through the webbing.

Instead of an inning over, the Mariners scored one, had runners on the corners and got to extend the frame.

The blunder, which went down as an error on Guerrero, was costly. Seattle scored the initial run and one more before Toronto got their third out. It was 4-3 by the end of the inning. Seattle took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the eigth.

Incredibly, this wasn’t even the first time this has happened to the first baseman. A ball went through the webbing on his glove earlier this season as well. What are the odds?

Blue Jays fans are ready to put together donations to get Guerrero a new glove if they have to. And who can blame them? That kind of mishap is ridiculous to have happen twice in one year, let alone in one career.

Guerrero had a rough game in general. Along with the error, he went 0-for-4 as Toronto blew their lead.
