Novak Djokovic is the king of Centre Court. As arguably the most famous surface in tennis celebrates the end of its first century, Djokovic put an exclamation point on an exceptional tournament.

Novak Djokovic won Wimbledon for the seventh time on Sunday afternoon, this time by defeating Nick Kyrgios in the final.

Djokovic won the match in four sets, including an exciting tiebreak in the fourth and eventual deciding set.

While he was pushed by Kyrgios, he was by no means up against the wall in this tournament. Tennis analysts continue to push the young guard on fans, but the trio of Djokovic, Nadal and potentially even Federer once he is able to return from injury still maintain a stranglehold on the sport for now.

Wimbledon runner-up prize money

The runner-up at Wimbledon, which this year will be Kyrgios, will receive 1.05 million Euros. That prize money is an increase, as is the case for the winner as well.

For his triumph at Wimbledon, Djokovic will earn 2 million Euros, which is an increase from 2021, in which the winner received 1.7 million Euros.

In USD, the 2 million Euros comes out to roughly $2.5 million, which is a substantial purse for any player, even one of Djokovic’s stature. Nonetheless, most of the top players’ earnings come from endorsement deals, rather than tournaments.

Who has the most grand slams?

Rafael Nadal has the most grand slam titles at 22. By winning Wimbledon, Djokovic has passed Roger Federer for second on that list with 21. He remains one behind Nadal, who is still an active player and reached the semis of this tournament before injuring himself.

Why is Novak Djokovic not vaccinated?

Djokovic remains unvaccinated, citing personal health preference. He was not allowed to play in the Australian Open as a result, but was permitted at Wimbledon and likely the US Open as well. Djokovic has committed to his status, and has no plans on getting the COVID-19 vaccine before the US Open.
