10 best NBA Summer League players of all time
8. John Wall, 2010 Washington Wizards
John Wall is another Summer League MVP who only played one season. Like Lillard, he only played in four games, but his short season was much more complete. Wall put up similar scoring numbers on poor shooting, but he also racked up four rebounds, 7.75 assists, and 2.5 steals. I’d take a strong defensive effort with firepower over high-level scoring any day.
Wall was hesitant to shoot a 3 all summer, not making one until the final game. That being said, he dished double-digit assists twice and had an all-time defensive outing in game two with five steals.
Aside from his inability to hit 3s, John Wall was very turnover prone. That makes sense when you look at Washington’s 2010 summer game plan: give Wall the ball and get out of his way. He was the first overall pick and was supposed to save Washington basketball, so letting him do what he did best tended to work out, and gets him in the number eight position.
