Ryan Day’s Ohio State football team has the makings of a future national championship squad.

Assuming the Buckeyes can play a lick of defense, Ryan Day could lead the Ohio State football team to its second national championship of the College Football Playoff era this season.

Ohio State should be the overwhelming favorite to come out of the Big Ten. There is a great possibility that the Buckeyes are the only team getting into the four-team field without a blemish on their record. Of course, Ohio State will need to beat presumably two southeastern college football powers to be national champions once again. The good news is they have some dudes!

Here are three Ohio State football stars who can bring home the hardware during awards season.

TreVeyon Henderson has all the talent in the world to go win the Doak Walker

Fresh off a 1,000-yard campaign as a freshman, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson has some serious star potential in the Buckeyes backfield. While the Ohio State offense has been more passing-centric since Ryan Day took over for Urban Meyer, Henderson does play the right position in the right conference to potentially bring the Doak Walker back to Columbus this college season.

Recently, we have seen the likes of Jonathan Taylor and Kenneth Walker III take home the Doak Walker at their respective Big Ten schools. Though neither the Wisconsin Badgers or the Michigan State Spartans have had the quarterback play on par with what Ohio State has had for half a decade, the Buckeyes will lead in every game they play this fall. This will be huge for Henderson.

In theory, this will allow Henderson to bust out a few 20-yard-plus runs in the fourth quarter to break the opposition’s will. Though he may not be the focal point of a completely versatile offense, Henderson might be the most talented tailback in the Big Ten. He could be all-conference anyway, but his competition for the Doak Walker may be coming out of the ACC, Big 12 or SEC this season.

Henderson is not a runaway favorite to win the Doak Walker, but we all would love to see him try.
