The Open Championship returns to the Old Course at St. Andrew’s. Will three-time champion Tiger Woods be there?

Tiger Woods returned to competitive golf earlier this spring when the 15-time major champion set foot on Augusta National Golf Course. Tiger’s return this year’s Masters Tournament was the first major he’d played in since the US Open in 2020.

But never fear golf fans, Tiger Woods is back and will be on the course when play begins on Thursday from the historic Old Course at St. Andrew’s. The 150th Open Championship will mark the 22nd time that Woods will have participated in golf’s oldest major.

Is Tiger Woods playing The Open Championship at St. Andrews?

What would the British Open Championship be without Tiger Woods? Of course, the last time Tiger finished in the Top 10 was back in 2018 when the tournament was won by Francesco Molinari at Carnoustie.

The last time Woods actually won the Open Championship was back in 2006 at Royal Liverpool in England. It marked Woods’ third British Open title and represented back-to-back victories in the tournament for the first time since Tom Watson in 1982 and 1983.

That championship that Tiger Woods won in 2005 was actually played at the Old Course at St. Andrew’s, as was his first time that he took hold of the Claret Jug back in 2000.

It’ll be interesting to see how Woods responds. He did not participate in the US Open earlier this year and had to withdraw from the PGA Championship. If Woods makes the cut and is even in the conversation come Sunday, it’ll be a minor miracle.

Should the unbelievable actually happen and Tiger wins the Open Championship for the fourth time, he will join Bobby Locke, Walter Hagen, Willie Park Sr., Tom Morris Sr., and Tom Morris Jr. as the only four-time winners of the event. It would also give Woods his 83rd tour victory, breaking the record for most wins ever that he currently shares with Sam Snead.
