Albert Pujols home run against Dodgers puts him past Ken Griffey Jr. in record books

With a home run against the Dodgers, Albert Pujols moved past Ken Griffey Jr. to take hold of the record for 20+ home runs against the most franchises.

Albert Pujols’ sixth home run of the season came with some extra meaning.

It’s not just that it came against his former team, the Dodgers, putting the Cardinals up 1-0 in the second inning of a game they would go on to win 7-6.

It was also his 20th career home run against the Dodgers, which gave him yet another MLB record.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Pujols has now hit 20 or more home runs against 17 different MLB franchises. That takes him past Ken Griffey Jr. for the record.

Pujols has hit the most home runs in his career against the Astros with 62. Next come the Cubs with 57 and the Pirates with 52. That’s no surprise considering all are NL Central rivals of the Cardinals.

If the St. Louis legend wants to add more teams to his 20-home run club, he’ll need to come back for another season. He has 15 against the Tigers, Marlins, Phillies and Rays. The Cardinals won’t play those teams again this year.

As you might imagine, Pujols has hit his fewest home runs against his long-time teams the Cardinals and Angels, with three and five respectively.

The 42-year-old was just added to the NL All-Star roster as a legacy player. He’s going to participate in the Home Run Derby for the fifth time in his career.
