With The Open Championship about to begin, Tiger Woods gave a very succinct opinion about those who’ve left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf.

During Tiger Woods’ press conference prior to the start of the 150th Open Championship, the three-time tournament winner gave his most outspoken opinion about those former PGA Tour professionals who’ve defected and joined LIV Golf.

According to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic, Woods stated that, “They’ve (the golfers who’ve joined LIV Golf) turned their backs on what got them into this position.”

This is about as bold as Tiger’s been when discussing the abundance of golfers who’ve shifted from the PGA Tour and joined Greg Norman’s upstart adversary.

LIV Golf has offered massive sums of money to former PGA golfers like Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka. Several others like former Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen have joined the offshoot as well.

Rory McIlroy has been one of the loudest dissenting voices among those on the tour who oppose LIV Golf, but others are beginning to speak up as well.

Tiger Woods is returning to St. Andrew’s and looking to win his fourth British Open Championship. Woods did not appear in the US Open and was forced to withdraw from the PGA Championship earlier this year. The Masters Tournament in April was the first time Tiger had teed up at major since 2020.

The divide between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will continue to be a story throughout the practice rounds and before play begins on Thursday. But once the tournament begins in the early-morning hours here in the United States, hopefully all the focus will turn to one of the most pristine and iconic golf courses in the world.

The Old Course at St. Andrew’s will play host to this year’s Open Championship. Collin Morikawa, who recently shot down rumors that he would join LIV Golf, is the defending champion.
