White Sox: Ozzie Guillen blasts Tony La Russa for locker room unrest
By Mark Powell
Former Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen put Tony La Russa on blast for the current state of the team, and some reported locker room unrest.
A recent report of clubhouse drama points the finger straight back at La Russa, who is supposed to be the sort of stable voice to keep that from happening in the first place. Instead, as the ChiSox continue to struggle, La Russa is out of answers.
Bob Nightengale reported that Chicago’s lackluster season thus far has led to a disgruntled locker room.
"“No one has been more disappointing than the Chicago White Sox, who must take a good hard look at what went wrong if they miss the playoffs. There have been a lot of whispers of unrest, cliques and the lack of player leadership inside the clubhouse tearing apart this talented team.”"
Chicago White Sox: Ozzie Guillen puts Tony La Russa on blast
Former Sox manager Ozzie Guillen called out La Russa for refusing to get his troops in order.
Considering how connected Guillen is with the organization, odds are this will make its way back to the manager’s office.
Southside Showdown’s Vincent Parise put the team’s struggles in perspective, calling it ‘devastating’ if true.
"“This is a team that is so talented but they can’t get it together. If they ever want to win, they do need to come together as a team and play the right way. They also need a manager that can lead them out of this.Tony La Russa doesn’t seem to have the clubhouse anymore so what good does he do for the team anymore? Most of his in-game decisions are brutal so there is literally nothing left for him as the manager if this is true. Before the year, this clubhouse loved each other.”"
Parise is right. Given the amount of talent on the roster, for this team to not pull it together and rally behind a veteran manager is concerning to say the least. La Russa is a Hall of Famer. The Sox won 93 games last year, and still reside in a below-average division.
This should not be happening.
