St. Andrews is a bucket list course for the most avid golfers, and it’s a public golf course, so anyone can play there.

One of the best things about this year’s Open Championships venue is that St. Andrews is a public course.

Anyone who wants to take a trip to the birthplace of golf can play it. There are greens fees for certain times of the year and at times cheaper than others.

While it may take some planning because most people play more than just St. Andrews, for now, let’s take a look at how much it costs to play there and the best time of the year to do so.

St. Andrews green fees, cost: Anyone can play the public course

There are seven courses at St. Andrews, the Old Course, the Castle Course, the New Course, Jubilee Course, Eden Course, Strathtyrum Course and Balgove Course. The latter is the only 9-hole course on the property.

For all courses, three different green fees are listed on the St. Andrews website. The high season is from April 18 through Oct. 16, the shoulder season is Oct. 17 to Oct. 31, and the low season is Nov. 1 through March 31.

Here are the current green fees for each of the seven courses.

Old Course

High season — $270

Shoulder season — $190

Low season — $135

The Castle Course

High season — Adult: $140; Under 16: $70

Shoulder season— Adult: $100; Under 16: $50

Low season — Adult: $70; Under 16: $35

New Course

High season — Adult: $120; Under 16: $60

Shoulder season — Adult: $84; Under 16: $42

Low season — Adult: $60; Under 16: $30

Jubilee Course

High season — Adult: $120; Under 16: $60

Shoulder season — Adult: $84; Under 16: $42

Low season — Adult: $60; Under 16: $30

Eden Course

High season — Adult: $60; Under 16: $30

Shoulder season — Adult: $42; Under 16: $21

Low season — Adult: $30; Under 16: $15

Strathtyrum Course

High season — Adult: $40; Under 16: $20

Shoulder season — Adult: $28; Under 16: $14

Low season — Adult: $20; Under 16: $10

Balgove Course

High season — Adult: $15; Under 16: $5

Shoulder season — Adult: $8; Under 16: $3

Low season — Adult: $8; Under 16: $3

The three most popular courses are the Old Course, the Castle Course and New Course. While all seven are incredible, they are the ones fans tend to want to play the most.

Golfers can rent clubs at St. Andrews through their partner, Callaway. Sets of the latest clubs come with a stand bag or players can rent battery-powered push carts or manual ones. It’s $20 for the battery-powered and $5 for the manual.

Players can also take caddies out on the course with them, which I recommend because these people know the course better than most.

Caddie fees are $55 plus gratuity. There are different options for caddie services, and request one while planning your trip through the St. Andrews website.

St. Andrews isn’t that expensive to play, but it does take some planning, and most of the budget will likely go into the plane tickets and lodging.

As a public course, St. Andrews can accommodate the most beginner to the most advanced golfer, so it’s genuinely a golf dream destination.
