Mets reveal plan for Jacob deGrom after successful rehab start

New York Mets fans will love the newest plan the team has for ace pitcher Jacob deGrom.
The New York Mets have been without Jacob deGrom for the start of the season due to a stress reaction in his right scapula. That came after missing the latter portion of the season due to a right elbow inflammation. But, there appears to finally be a positive update in deGrom’s return.
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets plan on deGrom participating in a simulated game next week, and if all goes well, deGrom could return to the team, mentioning July 24 and July 26 as possible dates. Pat Ragazzo of FanNation on SI.com confirmed Puma’s update, adding that deGrom could return anytime between July 24-27 against either the San Diego Padres or New York Yankees.
If all goes well, the Mets plan to have deGrom pitch a camp game in Florida next week (the minor league affiliates are off because of the All-Star game) and then insert him into the rotation. Both 7/24 (against San Diego) and 7/26 (Subway Series) have been discussed.

Jacob deGrom could return late July for Mets
This update comes following yet another impressive rehab start for deGrom. On July 14, deGrom threw four innings for Triple-A Syracuse, where he struck out four batters and surrendered two hits and one unearned run. 29 of his 42 pitches thrown were strikes.

The last time deGrom was on the mound was last July. Before being shut down, deGrom recorded a 1.08 ERA, a 0.55 WHIP, 146 strikeouts and 11 walks in 92.0 innings (15 starts).
This is welcome news for the Mets, as they just got Max Scherzer back earlier this month after he was sidelined with an oblique injury. Now, the Mets and their fanbase have the chance to see the dominant duo at the top of the rotation soon. It will be extremely helpful, considering the team’s first place lead in the NL East is not as large as it was earlier in the season.
