Shane Lowry posts insane back-to-back eagles in Round 3 at St. Andrews (Video)

Shane Lowry made a quiet move up the leaderboard on Friday at the British Open but needed just two holes on Saturday to shoot up with back-to-back eagles. 

It’s onto the weekend at the British Open and the start of the third round showed that St. Andrews had some good scores to be had. Kevin Kisner came out and fired a monster 65 to start the day and make a big move into the Top 20. However, it was someone who made a big move on Friday as well, 2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry, who made a big move in short order in his round.

Lowry shot a 4-under 68 in his second round to make a big move up the leaderboard and firmly secure his spot for the weekend. After shooting 1-under through his first eight holes on Saturday, though, the Irishman uncorked a little bit of magic for the crowds at St. Andrews on the ninth and 10th holes.

Namely, he never had to pull out the putter on either hole as he sunk two short approaches for back-to-back eagles.

After his drive into the short ninth hole came up in the short rough near the green, he hit a nifty little flip wedge into the green from 43 yards out that found the bottom of the cup. He was in the fairway 46 yards away on the 10th hole and again showed the touch in his hands with another hole-out, giving him four strokes on the field in just two holes and vaulting him into the Top 10.

Lowry is a fan favorite to begin with when he’s in the UK, so it’s not shocking that there was a good crowd there to go wild after the back-to-back eagles.

Talk about a dream start to the round for Lowry, even if he soon gave one back with a bogey on the 12th hole. Still, he took himself from just playing the weekend to being in the mix with just four swings of the club over two holes at the turn.
