Alabama football: 3 breakout stars for the Crimson Tide in 2022
By John Buhler
Oh, yeah! You better believe Kool-Aid McKinstry is having a breakout season
With a name like Kool-Aid McKinstry, you better believe this defensive back is poised for a breakout season. Oh, yeah? Oh, yeah! McKinstry is projected to be one of four starting defensive backs in base personnel. I mean, why would he not? He was the best prospect coming out of The Yellowhammer State only a season ago. With the power of NIL on his side, Kool-Aid will be a star.
Nickname swagger aside, McKinstry is über-talented and already plays in the position group that Saban knows best. With Jordan Battle seasoned at safety and Eli Ricks coming over from LSU by way of the transfer portal, there is a chance Alabama could have one of the best secondaries in the nation. For them to get over the top, McKinstry needs to be Alabama’s version of Kelee Ringo.
Alabama will be playing with a lead in pretty much every game this season. This means far inferior teams will be forced to throw the football on seemingly every single down. It will allow skilled playmakers in the back-end of the defense like McKinstry to flourish. Interceptions and pass breakups aside, McKinstry will be placed in the best positions to succeed on Saban’s defense.
If all goes according to plan, Kool-Aid will become the unofficial beverage of Alabama football.
