Bob Nightengale messed up Jackson Holliday MLB Draft tweet, because of course he did

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale went to tweet out that the Baltimore Orioles selected Jackson Holliday at the 2022 MLB Draft, but made an error.

MLB All-Star week began on Saturday, July 16 with the Futures Game and the Celebrity Softball game. But on Sunday, July 17, was the 2022 MLB Draft. Some of the top prospects in this year’s class included the sons of former MLB stars. Sure enough, one of them was selected first-overall.

The Baltimore Orioles held the No. 1 pick, and they selected Stillwater (Ok) High School shortstop Jackson Holliday, the son of former Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals star Matt Holliday.

Every reporter tweeted out the news that Holliday would be the Orioles’ newest top prospect. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale left out an important detail in his tweet — what number Holliday was selected.

It happens to the best of us. But, we know that Holliday was selected with the first-overall pick.

Holliday was viewed as one of the draft’s best hitters, and his stats prove just that. He broke the record for most hits by a high school player in a single season in the entire nation with 89 in 41 games. The record was previously held by current Philadelphia Phillies catcher JT Realmuto. In that span of games, Holliday slashed an absurd .685/.749/1.392.

As if the All-Star break could not get any better for the Orioles fanbase. The team is sitting at .500 (46-46), creeping up the AL Wild Card standings, and now add one of the top prospects in the entire 2022 class to their core. Not bad.
