The Cowboys have the roster talent required to win a Super Bowl, but these three holes could cost Dak Prescott his chance at championship glory. 

The Dallas Cowboys will enter this season as the favorite to win a second consecutive NFC East title, but that’s not the goal for Dak Prescott and his teammates. They desperately want to bring another Super Bowl trophy home to Jerry Jones and everyone associated with the Cowboys franchise.

It might seem like a stretch to call next year Super Bowl or bust for Prescott but it’s getting pretty close to that point. The team’s salary cap constraints are starting to make it harder for the front office to surround him with elite talent.

That’s caused several holes to open up on next year’s roster. Here are three deficiencies that might be costly enough to prevent Prescott from realizing his championship dreams.

3. A new outside wide receiver

Amari Cooper is likely overpaid but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver on the outside. Shipping him to the Browns in exchange for limited draft capital does weaken one of Dallas’ biggest strengths.

The good news is that the cupboard isn’t bare. CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup both return and can be counted on to pick up some of the slack created by Cooper’s departure. Newly acquired James Washington will also need to be productive right away.

The question looming for the Cowboys is whether or not they have the talent required to win on the outside. Gallup can stretch the field vertically but he’s more of a good No. 2 rather than a top-notch No. 1. That heaps pressure onto Lamb to successfully transition his game from a dangerous slot guy to a classic outside guy to help this offense hum.
