Some Florida football fans want Billy Napier fired into the sun before he coaches a single game.

Billy Napier has precisely a 0-0 record leading the Florida Gators, but he is not doing enough to convince this one Florida football fan that he is the right man for the job.

Yes, Napier might have failed as the Clemson offensive coordinator many moons ago, but he has since reinvented himself as a promising, up-and-coming head coach. Getting the Nick Saban treatment (twice) helped transform him into an elite Group of Five head coach at Louisiana. Too bad this one fan sees right through this former Ragin’ Cajun’s schtick on the ole message board.

Don’t let the 700-member staff fool you, “he is a fraud” who needs to be fired before it’s too late.

The Napier era of Gators football begins on Sept. 3 with a likely home loss to Pac-12 power Utah.

No matter how good Napier does at Florida, he will never be the Head Ball Coach. Though he may not win as prolifically as Urban Meyer did during his brief reign, the guy is not Ron Zook. We are not going to jump the shark here Jim McElwain style and say he is over his Dan Mullen Lake Oconee waterskis. Napier made Louisiana matter more than it did in The Waterboy, breaux.

Of course, Napier needs to find his own Bobby Bouchers on the recruiting trail. The Miami Hurricanes are starting to be The U again under new head coach Mario Cristobal. While Florida State may still stink to high heaven under Mike Norvell, the Seminoles have too good of a history to be down for very long. All the while, UCF is about to go Power Five and the Dawgs are champs!

So while half of Gator Nation exits Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in sweat-soaked jean shorts to the playing of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” down big Week 1 to the Utes, you don’t know how it feels to be fired by a fan on a message board before you coach your first game at a new place. Napier could be the best Billy to happen to Florida since Donovan won natties on the hardwood.

It’s best to believe in Billy, as he is runnin’ down a dream that would never come to Darth Mullen.
