MLB Draft grades: 16-20
Cleveland Guardians draft grade: B+
DeLauter is a bit streaky, but he’s been deemed by some scouts to be the best pure hitter in this draft. If we’ve learned anything about the Guardians scouting department, it’s that they know how to find top talent, especially from the dish.
Philadelphia Phillies draft grade: B
Crawford, who went to the same high school as Joey Votto in Las Vegas, is the son of former MLB All-Star Carl Crawford. While he claims to be faster than his father, he arguably has more power, as well. After being selected, Crawford had a simple message for Bryce Harper: See you in the outfield.
Cincinnati Reds draft grade: A
Collier is one of the youngest players in this draft class at just 17 years old. Yet, he remains one of the most talented. Collier plays a capable third base, and also has plenty of room to improve defensively. His bat is what makes him elite. The No. 7-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline fell all the way to 17. Consider that a steal by Cincinnati.
Oakland Athletics draft grade: B+
Susak is the second-best catcher in this draft, per MLB Pipeline. The kid is a behemoth, standing at 6-4 and over 215 pounds. Odds are, he has the power to match. However, positional stability remains a question mark for Oakland long-term.
Atlanta Braves draft grade: C
Murphy is a legitimate two-way prospect. In the age of Shohei Ohtani, anything is possible. Given the positional issues, Atlanta gets a C on this selection. Murphy was ranked as the 48th-best prospect per MLB Pipeline. At just 18 years old, he’s a bit of a mystery given he didn’t go to college. But clearly, the talent is there.
