MLB Twitter trolls Matt Holliday for ridiculous draft outfit
By Eric Treuden
Minutes after Jackson Holliday was selected first overall in the MLB Draft, MLB Twitter trolled his father Matt for his outfit.
The Baltimore Orioles used their first overall pick in tonight’s MLB Draft on shortstop Jackson Holliday, son of seven-time MLB All-Star Matt Holliday.
The younger Holliday is a shortstop who becomes just the second second-generation player in MLB history to go 1-1 with the first being someone you may be familiar with named Ken Griffey Jr.
The elder Holliday was a 15-year MLB veteran and has the unique distinction of being a superstar-caliber player for two teams, the Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals. Matt spent eight years with the Cards (four All-Star Game selections) and six years with the Rockies (six All-Star Game selections).
MLB Twitter trolls Matt Holliday over outfit in post-draft Zoom call
Jackson is said to have far more agility and defensive versatility than Matt, who was strictly a left fielder who did not possess much of a glove or throwing arm as evidenced by his -13.2 dWAR per Baseball-Reference.
Minutes after Jackson’s selection, the MLB Network boys reached him and his family via a Zoom call to congratulate him and get a first-look reaction from everyone.
Matt, while still looking like he could take the field on an everyday basis with an MLB club, wore a questionable outfit that has provided the MLB Twitter trolls with a ton of firepower.
