Coming to a pawn shop near you: Summer League Championship rings
By Scott Rogust
The Portland Trail Blazers won the NBA Summer League championship on Sunday, and players actually received rings.
The NBA Summer League has concluded, as all teams got a look at the prospects they selected in the draft, as well as some undrafted free agents. The final game was for the Summer League Championship, with the Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks.
On Sunday, July 17, the Trail Blazers defeated the Knicks 85-77 to win the Summer League title for the second time in their franchise’s history. But for the first time ever, the champs were given rings to commemorate the occasion.

This is the first time that the NBA has ever given rings for the winners of the annual summer event. There was some criticism once the announcement was made, such as former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy. Could you imagine the memes had the Knicks won the Summer League?
Jokes aside, the Trail Blazers team looked absolutely thrilled that they have rings to celebrate their heard-earned win in Las Vegas.
Trendon Watford was named the MVP of the championship game, after he scored 19 points while shooting 7-for-15 from the field and 3-for-6 from the three-point line. Watford also tallied seven rebounds (all defensive), three steals, two assists, and one block.
Brandon Williams led the Trail Blazers in points, as he scored 22 while making 5-of-9 field goal attempts and all 10 of his free throw attempts.
The Trail Blazers are Summer League champions, and they have the rings to prove it.
