3 moves Mets should make besides trading for Juan Soto
By Sam Peebles
David Robertson
The Chicago Cubs are not making the playoffs this year, so it only makes sense for them to trade any player that will be a free agent that they do not plan on extending.
David Robertson not only falls into this category, but he has been exceptional in 37.1 innings pitched. On top of that, Robertson will only cost the pro-rated amount of $3.5 million.
As stated earlier, many teams will be seeking bullpen help, which will potentially raise the asking price for Robertson. However, Robertson could be worth it for the Mets.
In only 37.1 innings, he has already accumulated 2.1 WAR with a 1.93 ERA (220 ERA+, which is 120% better than average), 3.27 FIP, 0.991 WHIP, and 11.6 strikeouts per 9 innings. He is walking more than what would be ideal (4.3 per 9 IP), but his ability to limit hits (4.6 per 9 IP), and HR (0.7 per 9 IP), has mitigated this issue.
Robertson has been aided by a high LOB% of 89.4% and a BABIP against of .203. However, even accounting for these metrics, Robertson still sports an xERA of 3.08, which could go a long way in helping the Mets build bullpen depth.
