Who sang the National Anthem at the MLB All-Star Game?

The National Anthem is always a popular topic when we’re talking about America’s pastime. With the being said, Ben Platt was the man who sang the anthem on Tuesday night.

The midsummer classic is…just that, a classic. And for good reason.

The All-Star Game has been a regular staple for decades. It will likely continue to be just that in the years to come.

Yet, after a sketchy Home Run Derby national anthem on Monday night, MLB had to be hoping for a casual performance on Tuesday. Platt gave the league an anthem with mixed reviews.

Ben Platt sang the national anthem. From this viewer’s television set, he did a fine job. I’m not sure what the outrage was. Could it be, perhaps, that Platt was wearing a ‘choice’ button on his shirt, symbolizing his pro-choice beliefs as it pertains to abortion rights? Sports fans don’t always love politics to be mixed in, but it’s tough to avoid in this day and age. And, frankly, Platt had every right to express himself the way he did.

Who is Ben Platt?

Platt is known best from his performances in ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ on Broadway. For his acting, Platt earned a Tony award, and given his voice it sounds like it was well-deserved. Per Sporting News, Platt “was Elder Arnold Cunningham in ‘The Book of Mormon’ on broadway from 2014-15, and was Friedrich von Trapp in ‘The Sound of Music’ in the Hollywood Bowl in 2006. On screen, Platt portrayed Benji Applebaum in the ‘Pitch Perfect’ films.”
