For the MLB All-Star Game, we have five bold predictions for what will happen.
Fans will wish Sandy Alcantara got the starting nod over Clayton Kershaw
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara has been the best starting pitcher in the National League and it’s not particularly close. In fact, he has been the best player in the sport overall.
He leads the NL in ERA (1.76), the majors in starts (19), complete games (2), innings (138.1), ERA+ (233), and rWAR (5.3).
But National League manager Dave Roberts is expected to go with his own starter Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw has had a great season (7-2 record, 2.13 ERA in 12 starts) but Alcantara has been far superior and he hasn’t been injured, like Kershaw. So Kershaw hasn’t been as dominant as Alcantara, and Alcantara has seven more starts and nearly double the innings (138.1 to 71.2).
It shouldn’t even be a debate but it is. Unfortunately, merit didn’t prevail.
