3. Tommy Fleetwood may forfeit his chance at playing in the Ryder Cup by joining LIV Golf

For now, we’ll have to take Tommy Fleetwood at his word. It was rumored after last week’s British Open that Fleetwood would be one of the next golfers to defect from the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf. Those rumors have since been denied.

But that doesn’t mean that LIV Golf is going to give up so quickly. We’ve heard enough denials from other golfers (Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka) to know that money talks, and if the deal is sweet enough, Fleetwood may have no choice but to switch teams.

Fleetwood is currently second among the Europeans in the Ryder Cup rankings, chasing only Spaniard Jon Rahm. Rahm was in the news this week as well as he was advocating for his countryman Sergio Garcia to be able to play in next year’s Ryder Cup despite the fact that he’s no longer part of the DP World Tour or PGA Tour.

Tommy Fleetwood, who finishes in a tie for fourth place at St. Andrew’s last week, is not among those listed for LIV Golf’s next event in New Jersey. At this time, one of Europe’s top golfers seems to be committed to the PGA Tour, but that could change very quickly.
