As Juan Soto trade rumors continue to buzz, the latest word is that the Nationals could be swayed by prospect-heavy packages.Ā
Whether itās the Home Run Derby or the MLB Trade Deadline, Juan Soto is the name on the tip of everyone in baseballās tongue these days. With reports that the Washington Nationals are going to entertain trading the superstar 23-year-old outfielder, everyone is looking for the latest developments regarding the situation.
Those have indeed been fast flowing. Some contenders have already extended their offers for Soto and you have to believe they wonāt be the last. Put simply, itās not every day that a player with his age and already-proven big-league production becomes available. And while thereās no guarantee heāll be dealt before the Aug. 2 deadline, all eyes will be on him leading to that point.
Should Washington end up trading him, it was once reported that they would like an All-Star caliber talent coming back to them. However, that stance may have changed according to MLB insider Jon Heyman who is now reporting that āprospect-heavyā trade packages could be enough to sway the Nationals to make a trade.
Juan Soto trade rumors: Nationals could bit one prospect-heavy trade package
The possibility of a trade package loaded with high-end prospects getting this deal done is highly intriguing and could bring virtually every contender into the mix.
While many believe the New York Mets are unlikely to be able to pull off the deal within the NL East, they have a need and the arsenal to make it happen. The New York Yankees also have a rich farm system, as do the Los Angeles Dodgers ā and we all know that LA is well familiar with doing business with the Nats after last yearās trade deadline.
The two most interesting contenders in the mix for Juan Soto, however, might be the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros. Both have yet to pull the trigger on their next big move but have the market, the success and the prospects to make this type of trade. And both would obviously be better off for it.
As of now, you have to assume that every team is in the Juan Soto trade mix until itās confirmed that they arenāt, which hasnāt happened yet. Suffice it to say, this story is only going to get hotter and hotter leading up to Aug. 2.
