Mets rumors: 3 All-Stars not named Juan Soto to trade for at the deadline
By Tim Boyle
Juan Soto’s name headlines the latest New York Mets rumors but the team can trade for these three All-Stars instead of him.
Juan Soto’s name has been mentioned in plenty of New York Mets rumors over the last few days as it has become apparent that the Washington Nationals are ready to listen to offers. The All-Star outfielder and 2022 Home Run Derby Champion would cost a king’s ransom, maybe more so if dealt within the division.
The Mets have a farm system and a few major leagues they could send to Washington to complete a deal. However, instead of trading for Soto, what if they pulled together their resources and traded for three other All-Stars?
The Mets are hoping to win it all this year. Rather than blow up the farm system and acquire one All-Star, maybe they should pivot and see if they can land these three instead.
1) Mets rumors: Joc Pederson is an All-Star trade target not named Juan Soto to get
Where would Joc Pederson fit in with the Mets? Anywhere he pleases. He’d be a natural fit to replace Dominic Smith on the roster as the big right-handed bat to play regularly as the DH. Considering the age of outfielders Mark Canha and Starling Marte along with the latter’s brush with injuries throughout this season, it wouldn’t be so harmful for the Mets to have a little more outfield depth on their roster.
Currently, the team is working with their starting three and second baseman Jeff McNeil as the man usually found patrolling the outfield grass in the absence of one of them. If the team is going to add a big bat for DH duties, they serve themselves best by making it an outfielder.
Pederson would be a power bat for the Mets to routinely put in the middle of their lineup. The question right now is how available he’ll actually be. The San Francisco Giants are teetering on a wild card berth. They’ll need to get hot in the next week and a half to keep themselves from becoming sellers.
