Red Sox trade targets: Cubs outfielder Ian Happ

Ian Happ looks like he will be traded since the Cubs are having a disastrous season. After signing some free agents to try to make the team better for the 2022 season, the Cubs are on pace for a 100-loss season. If they decide to trade him, Happ will be one of the most sought-after commodities on the trade market.

Happ was a first-time All-Star this season and in 90 games, he has hit .274/.364/.443 with an OPS+ of 126. He also has had nine home runs, 42 RBI, and 23 doubles.

Happ primarily plays left field but he can play center field and some of the infield positions. The Red Sox don’t have a single outfielder with a wRC+ above league average. Overall, their outfielders have an 82 wRC+, which is fourth-worst in the sport. Happ would add some more offense out there for this season but also next season since he isn’t a free agent until after the 2023 season.
