2. Trade/DFA Aroldis Chapman

On that point with Gallo, the Yankees don’t have room in their bullpen for a guy that is walking nearly a batter per inning.

Chapman’s ERA has ballooned in each of the last three seasons as it’s up to 4.74 this year. Worst of all, his other numbers suggest that he has actually had good luck with that 4.74 ERA. His walk rate is at 7.6 BB/9, his strikeout rate is at a career-low of 9.9 K/9, and his 7.1 H/9 is the highest in his career. That amounts to a 5.48 FIP (higher FIP than ERA suggests good luck, lower FIP than ERA suggests bad luck).

He is in the final season of a three-year deal so the Yankees wouldn’t have to eat too much of his contract but there might be some team that thinks that they could turn him around in the next two months. But the Yankees cannot afford to give up games because they keep putting him out there.
