The New York Yankees once again find ways to lose in heartbreaking fashion to the Houston Astros.
The New York Yankees have lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Houston Astros ever since the 2017 season. The walk-off home run by Jose Altuve in Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS. The other walk-off homer by Altuve on July 11, 2021 saw the Astros overcome a 7-2 deficit in the ninth inning to win 8-7. That is not to say the Yankees have not had some success against Houston (i.e. Aaron Judge’s three-run walk-off homer on Jun 26 this season.
But once again, New York lost in Houston.
The Yankees managed to tie things up at two runs apiece in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Isiah Kiner-Falefa. But in the bottom of the inning, the Astros walked things off after pinch hitter J.J. Matijevic beat the shift on a ground ball to give Houston the walk-off 3-2 win.
Twitter reacts to Yankees losing in walk-off fashion to Astros yet again
With the Yankees losing once again to the Astros, let’s take a look at what some Twitter users had to say about it.

Reliever Michael King was called to the mound for the ninth inning, and he had far from a great time. He allowed a single to Alex Bregman and a double to Aldemys Diaz in the first two at-bats. While he did strike out Yuli Gurriel, Yordan Alvarez stepped up to the plate, and he was intentionally walked. With the bases loaded and one out on the board, King struck out Chas McCormick to pull New York within one out of forcing extra innings.
Then, Matijevic entered as the pinch hitter and managed to beat the shift.
This is now the second game-winning hit that Matijevic has had against the Yankees. He hit the go-ahead solo home run in the June 25 game that saw Houston throw a combined no-hitter against New York. Now, Matijevic has the first walk-off hit of his career at the expense of the Yankees.
With another loss to their hated rivals, the Yankees may need to get aggressive on the trade market to try and improve the roster so they can get past Houston if they were to meet in the postseason. Because if the past five seasons has shown anything, the Astros have become the Yankees’ kryptonite.
