Jimbo Fisher joins Nick Saban in squashing offseason NIL beef
By John Buhler
Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban no longer have their bitter NIL feud going on anymore, alright.
After Nick Saban said he did not have any issues with Jimbo Fisher on Tuesday morning at SEC Media Days, the Texas A&M head coach echoed the Alabama head coach’s overall sentiment two days later.
The two SEC West head coaches really got after it in their heated back-and-forth through the college football media over the summer. Saban had accused Fisher and Texas A&M of inducing top high school players of coming to College Station, as illustrated by the Aggies’ No. 1 recruiting class in the 2022 cycle. Fisher took great umbrage with this, igniting a combustible May for the league.
After SEC commissioner Greg Sankey presumably told them to play nice, Fisher is cool with Saban.
Saturday, Oct. 8 in Tuscaloosa is not all that far away for these emerging conference rivals either…
Jimbo Fisher follows Nick Saban’s suit to quell their offseason beef over NIL
Although things have subsided on the NIL argument front for Fisher and Saban, the 2022 college football season is right around the corner. Alabama should be favored to win every single one of its games, en route to yet another national championship under Saban. Meanwhile, Texas A&M is on a shortlist of teams who could make the playoff for the first time in program history this year.
Given that Alabama’s lone regular-season loss from a year ago came to the Aggies in College Station, you better believe the Crimson Tide have the Texas A&M date circled on the calendar. Will Anderson Jr. sure does. In theory, whoever wins this conference game could be in the drivers’ seat to win the west and get to Atlanta. Then again, Alabama made it to Atlanta last season with a loss.
Ultimately, Alabama, Texas A&M and Georgia are the only three programs in the SEC with serious College Football Playoff aspirations this year. Two will probably make the four-team field. As far as the 11 other member institutions in their conference, good luck beating these guys this season. If Texas A&M is better than an 8-4 team this fall, the upper crust of the SEC should be unbelievable.
Fisher and Saban may have ended their beef, but all it takes is one little thing to heat it up again.
