Colin Cowherd is really shorting the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes this NFL season.

Even though Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs play in the toughest division in football, Colin Cowherd is not giving Andy Reid’s team the benefit of the doubt.

With NFL training camps opening up very soon, Cowherd revealed his early division winners and 14 playoff teams on Thursday’s show. While he picked all but the Las Vegas Raiders to make the playoffs out of the deep AFC West, his noted affinity for all things Russell Wilson got the best of him, as Cowherd picked the Denver Broncos to win the division and the Chiefs to finish in second.

Here is the entire segment of The Herd With Colin Cowherd where he picked all 14 playoff teams.

Colin Cowherd disrespects Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs in division pick

While any of the four teams in the AFC West are capable of winning the division, Cowherd’s slight of the Chiefs is a bit odd.

"“The Chiefs, I worry a little bit about Tyreek Hill. Also, sometimes the six-game stretches [Patrick] Mahomes falls into mechanically,” said Cowherd on The Herd With Colin Cowherd Thursday."

Though the Chiefs could pull back a bit, it will not be because Tyreek Hill plays for the Miami Dolphins or Mahomes has mid-season mechanical issues again. If Kansas City comes up short in the AFC West, it is because all three of their rivals are playoff-caliber squads with Pro Bowl-level quarterbacks and a bevy of pass-rushing talent. Of course, the Chiefs will win the division again…

Cowherd may come to his senses in due time, as he still has three self-proclaimed amendments to make to his preseason predictions. Even if you are high on one of their three AFC West rivals, you cannot be serious to put someone atop else atop standings preseason at this time. The Chiefs have earned the benefit of the doubt. They are the best-run franchise in-division, top to bottom.

Admittedly, the AFC is going to be a bloodbath. One could argue the fourth-place finisher in the AFC West will be good enough to win as many as three divisions across the league. However, the past is the best indicator of future success, and the Chiefs have been swimming in it of late. They have the best quarterback/head coach/general manager/ownership combo in the NFL going away.

Look for Reid to have a field day vs. his rivals’ three combined years of head-coaching experience.
