It’s training camp season, which means rival coaches are giving Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes bulletin board material again.

Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, if not the best. Yet, some still find reasons to detract from his accomplishments.

Tom Brady and Mahomes could speak for hours over such subjects.

But for the Chiefs signal-caller, it gives him yet another reason to be motivated. An anonymous NFL coach took a shot at Mahomes’ play-style. Apparently, when the play breaks down, Mahomes is a little easier to diagnose. Such is the case with any quarterback, though.

Chiefs: Is criticism of Patrick Mahomes fair?

Mahomes is in his first season without star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who now plays with the Miami Dolphins. Hill was traded in the offseason due to a contract dispute.

Hill, meanwhile, has gone out of the way to compare Mahomes to his current quarterback, the relatively-unproven Tua Tagovailoa. As capable as Tua surely is, he is no Mahomes. Even Hill knows that.

So, safe to say, Mahomes has plenty to keep him motivated this season. Kansas City has more competition than ever in the AFC West, especially when taking the quarterback play into account. Hell, Derek Carr may be the worst QB in the division.

Mahomes does scramble quite a bit, especially when the play breaks down. Getting him off his first read is the key to beating him, but it can also be a curse. Not all defenses are made to survive for five-plus seconds.

Looks like one defensive coordinator has to find that out the hard way.
