After much anticipation, veteran wide receiver Julio Jones is signing a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The NFL season is approaching that much closer, as players have begun reporting for training camp. There are plenty of big names still on the open market looking for new teams, one of them being former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones. Well, he is returning to the NFC South, but not to the ATL.

According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Jones is signing a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That’s right, Jones will be catching passes from Tom Brady for the 2022 season.

Schefter brings up that another team that was interested in signing the former Falcons and Titans wide receiver were the Green Bay Packers. Yet, as Schefter reports, the Buccaneers were more aggressive in signing him.

Jones spent the majority of his career with the Falcons before last offseason, when the team traded him to the Tennessee Titans. The transaction was supposed to help the Titans contend for a Super Bowl by bolstering their passing attack. Yet, things did not go as planned.

The veteran wide receiver’s production dropped off, and he was limited to 10 games due to injuries. In that span, Jones caught 31-of-48 targets for 434 yards and one touchdown. After the season, the Titans released Jones from his contract.

Now, Jones gets to join the Buccaneers to win his first Super Bowl title. He had one opportunity to do so with the Falcons, but they were unable to maintain a 28-3 lead thanks in part to the quarterback on the other team and now his current teammate — Tom Brady.

Jones is a Buccaneer and will be at training camp preparing for the upcoming season. Oh, and the Buccaneers will be holding joint practices with the Titans ahead of their Aug. 20 preseason game, so that will be interesting.
