Sure, it was an abbreviated two-game series, but any time the Mets run New York is a time to celebrate — for one borough, at least.
Take the 7 line far enough, and you’ll reach Citi Field. The Yankees aren’t in the Bronx anymore.
New York is a baseball town once more, with both the Mets and Yanks competing at the top of their respective leagues. Pete Alonso and Co. are expected to make the postseason in the National league barring an epic collapse, but would prefer to fight off the Braves in the NL East. The return of Jacob deGrom should help matters.
The Yankees, meanwhile, haven’t been nearly as dominant in the second half. A doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Astros, and now two losses to their crosstown rivals has grounded the Bronx Bombers, to say the least.

Two games is a small sample size, but you can bet MLB Twitter has enough content for weeks.
The Mets were hardly dominant in their two-game series against the Yankees, but at long last, the little brother has a chance to brag to their 27-time World Series champion neighbors.
Mets fans weren’t about to pass up THAT opportunity.
