Bayley, Io Shirai, and Dakota Kai all returned at WWE SummerSlam 2022, and fans lost their minds.
SummerSlam 2022 was a historic one, as this was the first premium live event without Vince McMahon not in charge of the creative direction of the programming. Now, Triple H is the head of creative, and he had the chance to make a statement in WWE’s biggest event of the summer. And he wasted no time in doing so.
The show opened up with Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship. Belair retained after hitting a Spanish Fly and a K.O.D. to pick up the victory. Afterwards, Lynch shook Belair’s hand in a sign of respect. But there was more to come.
Belair’s music stopped playing, and to fan’s amazement, it was the returning Bayley. The former Raw, SmackDown, and NXT Women’s Champion was not the only one to show up. Dakota Kai, who was released earlier this year, walked down the ramp. Then, Io Shirai’s music hit.
The trio confronted Belair in the ring, but Lynch stood side-by-side with her rival.
WWE fans lose their minds when Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Io Shirai returned
Twitter users and fans lost their mind when seeing the trio make their returns at SummerSlam.
Bayley had been sidelined since last summer, after she tore her ACL ahead of her scheduled SmackDown Women’s Championship match against Belair at Money in the Bank. Fans have been waiting for when she would ultimately make her return to WWE.
Kai spent the entirety of her WWE career with the NXT brand, but was released back on April 29.
Shirai last appeared on WWE television back on the NXT Stand and Deliver special on April 2, where she was part of the fatal four-way match for the NXT Women’s Championship. Mandy Rose retained her championship after by defeating Shirai, Kay Lee Ray, and Cora Jade.
It appears that there is a new stable on the main roster featuring Bayley, Kai, and Shirai. Meanwhile Lynch, who returned at last year’s SummerSlam as a heel, has turned face.
