1. Blue Jays rumors: Frankie Montas is the second-best pitcher on the market after Castillo

Frankie Montas is having another terrific season, despite playing for an embarrassingly bad team in the A’s. This year, he’s started in 19 games and thrown 104.2 innings with a 3.18 ERA and 3.36 FIP. His ERA+ is a great 117. He has 109 strikeouts and only 28 walks. He has given up only 44 runs.

He’s only owed roughly 2.4 million through the end of the season too. That’s beyond cheap for a front-of-the-rotation starter. Even better is the fact that he is under control for 2023 too. He’s not just a rental!

Since 2018, the now 29-year-old pitcher has thrown 505.2 innings and has a terrific 3.49 ERA/3.51 FIP. He has struck out 522 batters and walked only 152 during that time frame. Montas is a pitcher that can help lead a rotation to the World Series.

If the Blue Jays acquired him, it would give the Blue Jays 4 legitimate front-of-the-rotation arms for this year and next. Having quality pitching would go a long way in the playoffs and against the Yankees.

The Blue Jays aren’t just having to worry about the Yankees. They might face the Astros or Mariners in the playoffs. This is the time you can either win or lose in the playoffs. If the Blue Jays fail to acquire an impact starter at the deadline, their playoff chances are significantly worst. You can kiss a World Series chance away.

On this loaded team full of youth, there are no excuses for not selling out to win right now. These Blue Jays rumors must come true. Or at least one of these Blue Jays rumors must come true.
