Jake Paul won’t be boxing Hasim Rahman Jr. at Madison Square Garden next week as the bout falls through due to weight issues

Just one week before his next bout, one that would have taken place at New York’s Madison Square Garden, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will not be fighting after all.

According to a report from BoxingScene’s Jake Donovan, the fight between the younger Paul brother and Hasim Rahman Jr. — as well as the rest of the pay-per-view card that would accompany it — has been canceled.

Why is the Jake Paul fight canceled?

Donovan says the fight has been called off due to weight discrepancy issues. Most Valuable Promotions confirmed that the Paul-Rahman Jr. bout was off for such a reason.

According to a statement from the promoter, the bout had been agreed with a 200-pound maximum weight limit. Rahman had given assurance, since weighing in at 216 pounds on July 7, that he’d be able to make the weight — which the statement calls a promise not made in good faith.

After losing just one pound in the 24-day span since, according to MVP Promotions, Paul agreed to a 205-pound contest, but Rahman and his time wanted the fight at 215 pounds, which the promoters contend Rahman intended to weigh in at.

All who purchased tickets to the event or already purchased the pay-per-view will receive full refunds.
