The Chicago White Sox have had a very drama-filled season. There has been drama with players and with their Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa, who has made a bevy of questionable managerial moves. They are still only two games behind the Minnesota Twins for the lead in the AL Central and only 2.5 games back for the third and final AL Wild Card spot. So why aren’t they in on Juan Soto?

The Washington Nationals seem like they will trade Soto before Tuesday’s 6 p.m. E.T. trade deadline and the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers are the three teams that are finalists for him.

The Chicago White Sox have suffered a lot of injuries on the season and in the outfield, it has been no exception. They also have had some outfielders that have struggled at the plate so, in theory, the White Sox would be a fit for Juan Soto.

But they haven’t been a fit for him for one big reason: prospects.

The White Sox have one prospect in MLB.com’s Top 100 in Colson Montgomery at No. 89. The Nationals also want prospects that are MLB-ready or very close to that threshold. None of the White Sox top five prospects are in Triple-A and only one of their top 12 are in Triple-A.

The simple fact is that the White Sox don’t have the young talent that is healthy either. The White Sox don’t want to trade Dylan Cease and their other top, young MLB talent either so with the personnel that the White Sox have, the two clubs simply were not a fit at all.
