Ian Happ channels Wolf of Wall Street after not being traded by Cubs

Outfielder Ian Happ expressed his feelings after not getting traded by the Chicago Cubs with a GIF from the Wolf of Wall Street.

The Chicago Cubs were expected to move on from two big players at this year’s MLB trade deadline — Willson Contreras and Ian Happ. The two embraced in the team’s final home game before the trade deadline, with a trade seemingly looming. Instead, both players ended up staying with the team.

“I’m not leaving. The show goes on!” That is probably what Happ was saying to himself when he sent out this tweet with the GIF of Leonardo DiCaprio screaming into a microphone while playing Jordan Belfort in the critically acclaimed 2013 film.

Happ did have a fair share of suitors at the trade deadline, including the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers. Yet, the Cubs did not receive an offer that they deemed adequate and decided to keep Happ and Contreras.

With Happ, he is under contract through the 2023 season before he becomes a free agent. This season, Happ slashed .279/.360/.436 while recording 9 home runs, 46 RBI, and 100 hits in 99 games entering the trade deadline on Tuesday. He was named to the MLB All-Star Game this season for his efforts.

As it turns out, the Cubs’ last home game before the trade deadline was not the last for either Happ or Contreras. Instead, they will be playing for the team for the remainder of the season.
