8) MLB Power Rankings: Minnesota Twins

Maybe the quietest of the best moves made at this year’s MLB trade deadline came from the Minnesota Twins. They were able to snag All-Star closer Jorge Lopez away from the Baltimore Orioles. After months of questions about who their best closer option is, they now have an easy choice.

The Twins were also the winners of the important yet somewhat overlooked Tyler Mahle sweepstakes. Their rotation is looking a little stronger today which should go a long way toward increasing the chance at winning the division. Adding Michael Fulmer to the bullpen further boosts their chances.

The Twins began the day of the MLB trade deadline with only a one game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. They didn’t do anything to improve their chances. It’s another victory for the Twins.

7) MLB Power Rankings: Toronto Blue Jays

It took the Toronto Blue Jays a while to get cooking at the MLB trade deadline. With some obvious needs, their first big deal was with the Miami Marlins to add Anthony Bass and Zach Pop to the bullpen.

Much closer to the actual trade deadline, instead of getting Ian Happ, it was Whit Merrifield they added. Nobody could have predicted this. He’ll have to make good on his promise to get vaccinated if traded to a contender.

The Blue Jays still came up short in their pursuit of starting pitchers. This may ultimately lead to their downfall. However, considering they were never in pursuit of any of the top names out there, it’s not a major loss. They are still one of the best teams out there and don’t suffer in this post-trade deadline power ranking.
